Oral Healthcare for Those with Disabilities
Good oral health is part of overall wellness but sometimes for children with disabilities good oral hygiene can be a challenge. ACHIEVA, in partnership with Albert Schweitzer Fellow and University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine graduate, James Lin produced a webinar which provides guidance on oral hygiene and proper dental care. The webinar includes tips and adaptations that may help if you are the caregiver for someone that needs guidance on proper oral care. For additional oral health information you can access www.facebook.com/JamesLinDMD.
Two modules, Taking Care of Myself and My Exercise will both be up online in early June at selfadvocacyonline.org.
The AADMD would like to encourage the physician community to take part in the Physician Education in Developmental Disabilities (PEDD) continuing medical education curriculum. It is completely free to participate and entirely online. While it is geared toward primary care physicians, hundreds of specialist physicians and non-physicians have found this curriculum to be a valuable training tool as well. Click here for the series.
The Friends of the CDC’s National Center on Birth Defects and Disabilities (NCBDDD) have a webinar, “Preparing People with Disabilities for the Health Insurance Marketplaces: What do you know? What do you need to know?” The learning objectives are to enable attendees to: 1) explain recent changes in the Affordable Care Ace (ACA) that affect people with disabilities; 2) describe how the health insurance marketplaces will work; and 3) incorporate health advocacy tips for organizations that serve people with disabilities in the health marketplaces (exchanges) process and other health/ACA-related programs.
